Trying to make reading cool again. Jury is still out. |
This is definitely not the type of book I would pick off the shelf at the library. But thanks to my older sister, I had the pleasure of experiencing a David Stukas book. Apparently he has written a whole bunch of books in the same vein as this. And after Biceps of Death, I might even pick up another one of his books. If it has the same combination of mystery and humor, I’m in.
Biceps of Death is part of a genre that I can honestly say I’d never heard of before- gay amateur sleuth novels. What is that you ask? Well pretty much exactly what it sounds like. While this book is a crime novel, it is very light. Since I read this basically on a whim, it was exactly what I hoped it would be. The characters were over the top and pretty one dimensional but for this book, it works. You don’t want to get too in depth with these characters because you want to keep the story light and fun- that’s not easy in a murder mystery novel!
Stukas has a bunch of other books in this genre and I’ll be honest, I might actually read another one. Again, not award winning books here, but they are pretty entertaining. It’s an easy read and definitely a unique new genre that I was glad to get a taste of. Bored? Check out a David Stukas novel.
